The village trustees authorize a uniform street grade before building boom. Engineer G A Lomas and assistant work on level data to fix grades for main streets. The survey doubles for water works planning and possible future sewage disposal system as water abundance grows.
The Union County Teachers Association met during the week and elected officers for the year. Outgoing officers included Mrs Hauser, President, Mr Krigbaum, Vice President, and Miss Pinson, Secretary-Treasurer. New officers named are H H Eirrell, President, Mrs H Hauser, Vice President, and Miss Pinson reelected as Secretary-Treasurer. An excellent program featured many members including Miss Ruby Grossaint and others.
A. H. Woodward, father of H. B. Woodward, arrived from Clearfield Pennsylvania at the week’s start for a brief visit. The couple, Mr. and Mrs. Woodward, were greatly delighted by the unexpected arrival.
Carl Lyman of Wichita Kansas spends his vacation in the city enjoying local sights and leisure activities during a break from work. The visit highlights regional attractions and moments of leisure in town.
A communication to G. G. Granville from A. W. Read General Secretary urges attendance at the Colorado Gulf Heliway Association meeting. He notes daily detour traffic complaints and says collective action is needed to block routing changes through other points.
A meeting of the Franciscan Sisters of the local Catholic church outlined a plan to hold a fair or bazaar to raise funds for a seminary for young ladies and a parochial school in Clayton. Several parties have offered to contribute, with efforts to complete the fundraising within the coming months.
Consulting Engineer Doerr proposes raising Clayton city mains to sixty pounds per square inch to meet Fire Underwriters load, enabling lower insurance costs. A twenty ton water tank would be raised or replaced to achieve the pressure, with bids to dismantle and rebuild or lift the tank prepared.

A talent drama at the school house will precede a pie social to raise funds for the fair treasury.
Union County Teachers Institute winds down after four busy days with institute hours and social events. Resolutions praise the faculty and county superintendent Broett, thank the Board of Education and Willian, and note examinations continuing through next week. The Hooples secret Order held a successful conclave at the Court House, adding humor to the Institute week.
Mrs Forde Harrison and her son, part of a family of eight, are returning this week to their home in Wewicka Oklahoma after visiting relatives in Houston.
Clayton Ed W Williams of Grenville won the contract to drill the city well at a rate of 0.50 per foot for the first 300 feet with 0.25 per foot for every additional 100 feet up to a thousand feet. Engineer Duere estimates water bearing strata at about 700 feet. The plan includes a 12 inch bore tapering to eight inches, with Williams supplying all essentials and delivering a complete well to the city.
Funeral services for N A Hypes were held Wednesday at 3 30 PM at the Methodist church. His wife and son arrived from Illinois as a large crowd followed the casket to its burial at Des Moines Cemetery. The service was conducted by Rev Thee.
The Pioneer Garage will be reconstructed within weeks on the current temporary site at Main and Third streets. Mr. Wikoff seeks bids for a brick modern garage sixty by one hundred fifteen feet and construction will start immediately after contract award.
