A Denver firm bid on Clayton bonds at a high premium with more than a dozen bidders. The premiums indicate strong investor interest and reflect Clayton’s greater prosperity compared with similar towns.
Recruiters Lieuthank Golling and Jack Chaver plan to travel to Grayton within a week to seek volunteers for the New Mexico National Guard. They faced delays from lack of patriotism and medical disqualifications after applicants failed physical exams, hindering muster into regular service.
A debate at the Horn school house Sunday July 2 at 10 oclock will argue secret ore contrary to gods will. FS and Hysol defend the affirmative while J B Hopkins opposes the motion citing scripture. The debate may last four hours with a basket dinner served on the ground.
Extension Work Director A G Copley from the State College of Agriculture and Mechanical Arts spent Monday and Tuesday in We city with County Agent Orrin Beatty. He praised Beatty’s progress and spent much time arranging office equipment for the county agent’s office before leaving Tuesday evening for the College.

The Bryan home welcomed twin boys named Woodrow and Jones Bryan, while G W Bryan recovers.
Smith of this city intends to raise a company of Union County volunteers of 75 to 100 men should the Mexico situation bring a call. He is confident he can recruit quickly if the President orders mobilization, with many likely to enlist in the state militia.

Paul Chambers, a visitor from near Tate, arrived Friday to take the train for Galilison Kansas where he will spend a month visiting relatives and friends.
