Mina Vernal Eklund daughter of Carl and wife wed Lieutenant Richard Wooten of Chickasha Oklahoma in a double ring ceremony at the bride’s home in Clayton. Rev Richmond Mille officiated with sisters Gerda and Huma Lee as attendants. After the ceremony the couple departed for Chickasha and San Antonio Texas to begin married life while he serves at a fort.
The Home Economics Club met at the home of Minister Gill on Friday December 11. Members listed include Bergen Chamberlain Howard and Riker among others with Haydon in charge of the program. Members are urged to settle dues before the new year. The next meeting is set for December 15 with Mrs Chamberlain. no music program planned.
El Paso Texas December 12 William Jennings Bryan applied for enlistment and was accepted by the recruiting officer. He is the namesake of former Secretary of State Bryan and came here from Sweetwater Texas.
State School Superintendent J. H. Wagner returns from Washington to announce a $105,065.89 distribution to New Mexico common schools, the largest ever. The per capita rate nears $3.00, funded from common school land rentals, with additional funds to follow from the common school land income fund.
General Sir Julian Byne gained experience in West front warfare commanding the Canadians. For a year he directed a fine body of men and led them through the Somme operations and early 1917 Vimy actions. His promotion followed Vaughan court and third army duties, earning credit for Courcelette Regina redout and Vimy Fridge style advances, with Welsh and Bozen troops under his care.
Dr W Carl Chambers and FL Were, an automobile driver, were injured Saturday morning when their vehicle rolled off the Kenton road just east of town. The car left the highway on a hill, piling over and injuring both occupants. Chambers attended Sam Smith at the scene.
The team left early Friday for Des Moines to play the up-county team in the afternoon. The game result is not learned as we go to press. Several pupils accompanied the squad.
Jon Roy Murray plans to leave January 2 for Washington DC to join the Department of the Quartermaster General a top appointment with strong community support. The piece also notes visits from Sergeant Carew Tapner of Logan Colorado and other locals in Clayton amid business and social activity.

President Wilson issues a proclamation urging all not yet members to join the Red Cross in a campaign from Sunday December 16 to Christmas Eve. He calls Red Cross membership a universal patriotic duty and the supreme expression of the nation's spirit in action.
Cantata practice occupies time of those attending a Christman cantata to be held at the Minion Theater. The event is a union Christmas service for all city churches, with rehearsals every evening and all participants paid.
