The governor's keynote criticizes Prohibition enforcement as worse than the law and urges Congress to reveal spending and time used. He advocates repealing war taxes, prosecuting profiteers, stricter railroad oversight, a national budget system, and woman suffrage.
Governor Jamon M. Cox outlines policy positions including League of Nations ratification with reservations, tax reform, labor protections, child welfare, agriculture support, and federal budget ideas. He argues for industrial peace, suffrage support, decentralization of government, and campaign finance limits, naming national and domestic priorities.

In Nashville on August 10 a joint resolution to ratify the federal suffrage amendment was introduced in both Tennessee chambers and tabled until tomorrow. A telegram from Gov Cox urging ratification was received through Miss C Williams of Memphis, vice chairwoman of the Democratic national committee.
A boy from near Peagean and his brother were traveling when a knife blade broke into their meat can. A passing car hit the back of a light spring wagon, crushing the boy. He was taken to a hospital with serious but hopeful prospects for recovery.
The News reports Miss Inez Mason will purchase the barber shop on Firat Street north of Azars and assume control next Monday. The new owner plans to hire a female barber and run a beauty parlor alongside the lonsocial emporium, marking a new Clayton venture with promising prospects.

The Methodist Episcopal Church South held its fourth quarterly conference in Clayton. Leaders including J D Jon Bre, W H Goble, B G Robar, and others met as stewards and trustees. The church shows a pros enous condition and a youth mission theater is planned. a school has been organized in Clayton to meet there at 3 o clock Sunday afternoon. Everyone is invited.
The Otto community held an ice cream supper for the Blues after a Sunday school break following a contest with the Reds on August 23. About 108 attendees enjoyed two gallons of ice cream and thirteen cakes, with many assisting in the event and celebrations.
The twelfth annual Old Settler's Reunion at Pattie G was highly successful with many amusements and prizes. Contests included a draw in the riding event between Melvin Stevenson and Jim Hobson, a fast horse race won by Charc Hulle, and other prizes such as a $25 purse and a $10.50 meal ticket. Charlie Adams won the fastest cow horse prize, and Charly Sotulla won the hundred yard dash. The children's race awarded a prize, funds were left in the treasury, Theo Schultz was elected director for next year, and attendees praised the day while looking forward to the next meet.
Sealed proposals are invited at the Clayton Independent School District for a one story brick schoolhouse with plans on file at LB Berry & Co Amarillo Architects. Bonds 7 percent of contract price and bid security 2 percent of bid required. Plans may be obtained at the Architects or Pioneer Garage office. Opening date August 25 1920.
