County Agent Opens Office in Court House

Orren Beaty County Agricultural Agent arrived in Union County on Saturday and will visit every community in the county to offer farm assistance. He has worked in Oregon for six years and comes from Walkertown Indiana. Beaty will be at the Clayton County Court House on Saturdays and Mondays and will visit farms by letter or phone. he urges farmers to seek help with crops and stock raising.

J J Brophy longtime Union County resident and public figure died Sunday at 2 35 am after a ten day illness. He survived by a wife and son John Jr and had lost his eldest son about a year earlier. Burial was in Masonic Cemetery beside his son Frank. He served as deputy sheriff city marshal and US deputy marshal in a career spanning Texas New Mexico and Kansas.

School Superintendent Elected for Clayton Schools

J E Chamberlain of Ellis Kansas was chosen by the Board of Education Friday night to serve as superintendent of Clayton schools for 1916 and 1917. He brings thirteen years of experience, a Emory State Normal graduate life certificate, and roles as city and district leader in Kansas education. He plans to settle here, build a residence, and promote manual training and domestic science.

Minister Receives Master Degree at Denver Commencement

Rev. Antho Gaines, pastor of the First Methodist Church, left Monday afternoon for Denver to attend the Denver University commencement exercises where he will be awarded a Master of Arts degree this session. He previously earned a Bachelor of Arts from the same university.
