The Methodist Episcopal Church invites all to Sabbath morning services at 10:30 with a sermon by Rev. Charles Wilcox. Sabbath school follows the morning service, Epworth League at 6:30, long service at 7:30 with a sermon and prayer meeting Wednesday at 7:30. Odessa township east of Scotland in Yankton county becomes a civil township with Gust Gunderson Gottlieb Hertz and John Auch named as supervisors. A Parkston gas plant was sold to Howard of Orchard Iowa who plans to survey sentiment and may switch to electric lighting. Dakota Central Telephone protests were heard by railroad commissioners at Tyndall then Aberdeen. The Curtiss bill aims to cut publishing costs for laws by pamphlet form, reducing state wide expenses.

Gov Patterson, just retired as Tennessee governor, pardoned 1651 murderers and 804 felons. On his last day he pardoned 17, including several serving murder sentences. His successor becomes Tennessee’s second Republican governor since the Civil War.
Senator Gamble votes against the bill that has cleared the house to bar government supplied printed envelopes at cost. The piece faces opposition from printers nationwide who view competition with the government as unjust, while Perkins proposes apportionment changes granting the west more seats. The plan shifts representation with 6,500 per house member and 13,000 per senate seat, moving four senators and eight representatives west of the river, at the cost of losing one seat in multiple counties and two in Yankton.

The Aberdeen Chautauqua association announced Hamlin Garland as a speaker at its Tacoma Park assembly. Garland, a noted novelist, will make a homecoming, having spent part of his boyhood on a homestead near Ordway in Brown County.
