Cimarron shops boast thorough equipment for Rocky Mountain lines
The Cimarron division shops of the St. Louis, Rocky Mountain and Pacific Railroad are described as thoroughly equipped with modern machinery. Master Mechanic J W Records heads a team of skilled machinists in a 36x40 foot blacksmith area and multiple departments. The plant features heavy lathes, planers, a 12 foot planer, radiused drills, a massive acrostatic wheel press, a 36 inch band saw, a large boiler and high pressure engine, a Franklin air compressor, and a 15 ton derrick designed in house. Fire protection and air distribution cover the yard and roundhouse, with water pumped from the Cimarron river to elevated tanks. Continued on last page.

Shipping rates favor Colfax County miners
Cost reductions in smelter fees and railroad freight have lowered from mine to smelter charges for Colfax County ore. Before, low grade ore required high transport costs, but with the Cimarron rail line proximity and Red River district access, even low grade veins near large dykes may now profitably ship to Pueblo smelters. The region expects a surge of previously uneconomical ore to be mined and shipped.
