Big Bass Biting at Springer Lake Members Land Large Catches
The Springer Lake fishing season opens with several bass from one to three pounds. The Stockman family dined on a big bass Wednesday while Douglas Wright and Louis Brown led with eight catches, Mrs. Wright landing five. Fishing requires six inch minimum length and permits from W H Kremis, Elk's Rod and Gun Club secretary. Twenty five major school book publishers visited Santa Fe seeking contracts valued at $20 000 to $25 000 for territory schools.

Raton Plans Big Fourth of July Celebration
Raton's Fourth of July plans are nearly complete with an exhaustive sports program and a morning address by Hon. George B. Klock of Albuquerque. Evening fireworks by Akhurst-Eberly Arms Co. of St. Joseph, Missouri will close the day, while local carpenters donate stands and the finance committee seeks more funds for music and events.

Far-reaching storm lights up eastern slopes with hail and wind
A damaging storm tracked from Dalle Peak to Raton via Cimarron Day Koehler Gardner and Raton, with lightning along the mountain east slope and a fourteensmile eastern limit west of Springer. Wind roared and hail pelted as rain raged. In Dawson lightning struck the E P L and S W roundhouse, killing a worker. In town the Fourth of July ball will be a dandy with an expanded orchestra. George Foley arrived from Raton to serve at the Oxford cafe line counter.

Excursion to Van Houten and Koebler Ends With Lopsided Game
