Times correspondents report farm moves and losses from the recent cold spell. Charley Woosley shifts to the Caleb Reeves farm while J W Arthurs loses pigs and J B Plummer a Hereford calf. Harvey Surprise and wife visit relatives in Buffalo and buy a Duroc sow. Notices include fur trade, moving plans, and a Leavenworth trip for M Taylor. Weather warms and a lyceum event is announced.
Wednesday Feb 15 reports fair weather and hints of spring while detailing local illnesses shipments and visits. notes include Rev Groom and Rev McHugh, school substitutions, a big baby born, a charity oyster supper Feb 25 at the G A R in Earlton, and a gas prospect bond vote in Chanute with ward by ward results. Also mentions coal scarcity, rail worker illness, a Rough Riders trial acquittal, marriages at Ridge, hog shipments, and local business notices. Kansas Money advertises banking rates.
New court filings include Harmon versus the Benevolent Mosselys ap a free P. court and Scott versus BR. 1, Chaney for slander plus Smith versus Smith, a divorce. Marriage licenses listed. Weather report notes a record low week with frost, cattle losses, and a train incident. Died Feb 12 Rev John C Alexander age 73. remains sent for interment. notable obituary for a longtime minister.
Big Creek residents report Mrs Gilson ill and unable to be about. Pierce has begun work for Mr para sis Wheatley visited the area last week. Roy Braden receives a visit from Ed Walton. Henry Brown starts levee work. A basket supper is planned for next Tuesday night. Twilley M M moved to new locations last week. Geo Damian was saluted and others attended a general sale.
Mrs C A Phillips of this city died at her home on Tuesday February 14. An old Chastite resident she was universally esteemed for kindness and Christian character. She leaves several grown sons and one daughter with families. Her husband L Phillips died about sixteen years ago leaving life insurance that sustained her.
Teachers seek to curb tardiness with Miss Radford’s rule that each minute late requires one extra hour after school. The Middies finish Algebra and begin Geometry amid praise for the Sentors’ difficulties. Weather remains delightful for field sports and another entertainment is planned. Friday exams covered Latin Algebra and History with noted difficulty.
A Cincinnati music firm offers a new song inspired by a penitentiary dying convict's last request. Rev. Thos Delaney aboard at the scene recounts the youth asking that his body be sent home without revealing his location. Sold for 20 cents in silver or stamps.
Fireman Nels Nelson and brakeman Tweedell were hurt Wednesday afternoon when a side rod came loose and flopped into the cab. Nelson suffered a badly cut foot, Tweedell was knocked from the cab and severely bruised. Both are not believed to be in serious danger. Two shares Neoshu Valley Creamery stock will sell at a discount, apply at First National Bank.
