Fredonia Kansas residents confront severe road conditions after a period of heavy snowfall and thaw, causing travel disruption and calls for maintenance funding as local officials assess repairs and safety concerns for the town.
In Leanna Kansas on February 8 1897 Mrs A Alford is confined with pneumonia and pleurisy. Odense plans a tree concert tomorrow night. Henry Angel hauled corn to Humboldt last week. Will Smith visited Savensburg. Mrs George Hartsock has neuralgia. A Miss Johnson of Humboldt visited relatives last week. Dr Courtney is improving but still bedridden. Miss Mary Trammell left for Ossawatomie. Fred Burghart and Mr Mills filled ice houses with eight inch ice. Richard Blair attended Hutchinson as a M W of A lodge delegate. Uncle Jimmie Simmons rented the Dennis farm for the season with son Walter. Otis Smith rented the Knox farm near Chanute to farm after March Isle. Spelling school and ciphering contest held. EB and A W Reed were champions. Mrs L E Denham ill but better. Mrs John Blair ill with erysipelas. Harry Smith was in Chanute Must Monday.

Shaw Kansas February 10 Will Perry of Chanute visited Shaw Sunday. Mr Alstor trades farm for property in Iola. D Ewart of Iola was in Shaw on Monday on business. Mr Beamer is laid up this week from a fall. Mr Killberger married last week to Miss Alice Hampkins of Elk County.
Urbana Kansas notes no Sunday school meeting at U B church due to bad weather. Residents G W Griffin and Will Flynn were in town and Chanute on business. Snow from Sunday viewed as beneficial to wheat. C R Noble returned home for a few days. James Neely left for braking on the RB 1. overall business was dull last week aside from medical practice.
