The Chanute Times reports a January 27 Topeka gathering of the State Temperance Union and the State Editorial Association moving to Topeka on January 1. It notes Carrie Nation’s insanity trial in probate court, smallpox in Independence, and various Kansas items: Prairie dog bill passage, Brady contracts, local deaths, and other political and social notes across Topeka, Leavenworth, Ottawa, and surrounding towns.
