Caldwell prepares to welcome visiting Odd Fellows and Rebekahs from across the state for a major gathering. The city has been cleaned and groomed for about a thousand guests who will stay for most of next week. The 1 0 0 F home and the nearby site are readied for dedication and activities marking the event.
Workers near completion of the Homedale bridge project as Caldwell residents prepare for a big dedication day. Governor Davis will speak, with a D A L R program and a late evening bridge tablet ceremony. A large crowd is expected, dining and dancing planned, and Caldwell and Homedale bands may attend. The event fits a broader Idaho plan to build four Snake River bridges linking the Gem district with Caldwell and beyond.
McConnell was chosen post commander of Loren M. Trotter post at the Commercial club meeting to succeed Dr Fi Cole who declined a second term. George Warren, Allen Lyon, Jack Terry, B J Robb and Dr Celempon elected to key posts and the post secretary. The post reports assets of 1.05 with liabilities exceeding that amount and plans winter activity and a November 11 Armistice Day entertainment and dance.
Sid Curtis Haydon and companions returned Tuesday evening from a hunting trip to the south fork of the Salmon with five deer. The party including Henry Vinw yon and Mr Hengrroth bagged five deer in total. Haydon saw Ed Hayes and Alec Ballantyne en route to the hills and notes scenting bear and deer scarce. The group rushed away from the scene in opposite directions, their speed rivaling a naval act.
A letter to Dr A Lehama commends the Idaho department head for a splendid report forwarded to the surgeon general. Major Samuel W Gibbs acknowledges the department as most efficient and offers best wishes for continued success in their work. Signed Hugh D Jackson Head General and Department Commander.
Boise Oct 12 The public utilities commission received Examiner Gartner’s tentative report on the Wilder branch case. He ordered discrimination against Wilder removed, reversing a prior Caldwell Traction decision. Testimony and exhibits showed Wilder’s higher rates compared with Nampe Emmett and Boise, prompting removal to achieve parity and prevent further prejudice.
Citizens are urged to register promptly for the November 2 election. Registrants must file by October 30 at the registrar's office. The note emphasizes civic duty and the impact of each vote on local and state results, warning that one vote can influence precincts and county outcomes. It also mentions poll officials selected to run the election.
The Tribune reports a tight field in its profit sharing subscription drive as candidates vie for two grand prizes. Two top money earners by next Thursday win steak sets, while total winners depend on the final report. A 175,000 bonus rate is offered for turning in 30,000 subscriptions in two weeks.
A. J. Gipson returned Sunday from attending the Sovereign Grand Lodge of Odd Fellows in Boston. The meeting drew about 40,000 in the parade and Gipson was re elected president of the International Odd Fellows Press association. He visited his daughter in New Haven and Lawrence in Crawfordsville Indiana. In Chicago he met with Barle Venable, former Payette resident and now Republican headquarters chief, who spoke of a bright outlook for Harding and Coolidge.
The note states that Venable is now with relatives and friends in Idaho and that he expects to come out after a few weeks.
Notus residents bid farewell as Rev. R W Spencer and his son Rowland depart for Moab Utah where Spencer will lead Mosb Firs toptiot church amid best wishes. Also Rev David Henry Hare leaves Chalres Falls for Synod of Idaho duties. Edith Kare granted divorce from Elbert Karr with custody given to Kare. married August 19 1909 in Washington Iowa.
