The City Jail of Caldwell Sold for 17 Dollars
The only Caldwell jail, built in 1884 by Gilmore, sold this week for 17.00 and will be moved for domestic use. Its walls were ironclad boards with three inch spikes, never breached by a inmate escape. Waterbury, the first prisoner, faced murder charges but escaped punishment on a legal technicality. Once Ada County owned it, the jail was donated to Caldwell after county division. The old structure, famed for its stout build, is now obsolete.
