Farm bureau appeals to halt railroad strike to save Idaho farms
Communications from the Canyon County farm bureau urge commercial groups and farm bureaus in the Northwest to pressure government bodies to end the railroad strike immediately. The appeal warns that continued disruption will bankrupt Idaho potato, fruit, and grain growers, demoralize markets, and strain bankers and seed prices. Signed by C. B. Edgar Y Gipson state tree inspector urges farmers to begin spraying for the second brood of coddling moth now. Spraying should finish by August 1 on Snake River slope and by August 5 in Boise valley. A second spray within ten to fifteen days of those dates is advised to protect seed and brood worms.

Weather Improves Crop Outlook Across Regions
The week brought generally favorable conditions for crop development with cool changes in later districts and beneficial rains in the south aiding dry term crops and irrigated vegetation. Cultivated crops including corn beans potatoes and beets show satisfactory progress as early potatoes enter the market and fruit harvests for apricots and early apples begin. Prunes drop heavily but final impact remains uncertain.
