Pacific cable opened with world round trip in minutes

The July 4 dispatches describe President Roosevelt opening the Pacific cable with a round the world message. Mackay and Taft receive congratulations as the journey maps a globe spanning route via Oyster Bay to San Francisco, Honolulu, Midway, Guam, Manila, Hong Kong, Saigon, Singapore, Bombay, Suez, and back through the Azores to New York.

Pleasant Ridge reports a better season with heavy fruit loads on apple and peach trees and berries selling quickly despite a short crop. Bert and Edith George return from Boise with Mrs. Bryan visiting at Woodlawn. William Newland leads haying at Johnston ranch. An ice cream social for church benefits is planned next Friday night. Rev Helman will preach at 10 o clock and Sunday school at 11 while hot weather lasts.

Multiple marriages at Pacific Hotel and local towns

July 1 at the Pacific Hotel Judge RE Mallory united Ralph B. Stumbaugh and Mary Otto of Nampa in marriage in a quiet ceremony. On July 8 Judge Mallory performed a similar service for Charles M Johnson of Chicago and Nancy W Bowman of Ottumwa Iowa. Monday in Emmett Rev Boone wed Miss Samantha Lewis and Hon Douglas Knox. Tuesday June 30 at the bride home Miss Martha A Fletcher and Mr Ralph A McDouell wed with Rev Helman officiating. The couples reside in Homedale and will start married life there.

Saratoga Corner Stone Laid For Hotel Building

The foundation for the Saratoga Hotel was finished recently and on Thursday July 9 1903 at the 8th stroke in the morning the cornerstone of the superstructure was laid before many spectators. A large workforce of stone cutters masons and bricklayers is at work and completion is hoped for in October.

Burglary at Dan Browns Saloon Shocks Town

A midnight break in at Dan Browns saloon yielded $2.50 from the cash register. The thief or thieves left behind only the register cash, sparing cigars and drinks, prompting speculation that a local group might be involved. Also reported: Peter Girten, father of Mrs. J M Peppard, died about 2 pm yesterday, a veteran of the Mexican War with details to follow next week. Caldwell welcomed Fred T. Daws, editor of the Nampa Times, visiting from Nampa. Daws recently took charge of the Times and aims to grow its field.

News of the Pioneer Irrigation District reports directors voted to sell the remaining authorized bonds to finance enlarging the High Line this season. Farmers urged bonds over assessments, while criticizing past delays and water shortages as acres under canals rise beyond capacity.

Miss Bean Leads Canyon County Schools Toward Consolidation

Miss Cora Bean, county superintendent, has steered Canyon County public schools away from splitting districts toward consolidation. Pleasant View No. 50 near Nampa will add rooms and centralize primary classes, Roswell and Parma plan larger facilities, and districts overall push toward a central high school with nearby primary buildings. Warrant Calls by Canyon County Treasurer in Caldwell Ida

The Office of the Treasurer of Canyon County Caldwell Idaho announces it will pay upon presentation, starting July 13, 1903, all outstanding current expense warrants issued before April 22, 1903 and those up to No 15 issued April 22, 1903.
