The Boise and Interurban plans major extensions to Roswell and Boise, with possible Deeer Flat routes, promising wide Boise Valley growth. Stockholders urge western reps to push lines, extending electric service, boosting irrigation farms and intensifying land sales as rural populations shift toward 20 to 60 acre plots. No firm start date yet.
Idaho prepares for a nationwide Layman's Missionary convention in Boise with 1200 delegates expected from the district. The event, interdenominational and organized by a Boise committee, opens March 10 with a banquet and a full program. The movement promotes evangelical cooperation across churches and boards to evangelize the world. Local leaders report strong interest and headquarters at the YMC building.
F N Rosebaum was appointed bee inspector for Canyon County after a Parma beekeepers meeting led by the State Horticultural Inspector. With foul brood disease spreading from Portland, locals levy an assessment and plan a field day near Caldwell for demonstrations. A March Parma meeting will organize a cooperative to market honey, with 15 to 20 carloads anticipated this year.
Henry Hannah of Caldwell is foreman for the planting crew on a vast orchard project at Council-Mas on Mann Creek in Washington county. The 4000 acre orchard, to be the world's largest, will use Elias Nelson as superintendent and Caldwell Nursery Company for trees. V D Hannah of Caldwell planted the first fruit trees in the county over thirty years ago.
Several Caldwell store bookkeepers changed jobs this week. Rufous Roddy left Baker & Harris for Dean & Hay. Fred Kirk left Hazelwood Creamery to join Baker & Harris, while Fred Dunlop moved from Baker & Harris to Hazelwood Creamery.
Dr G L Powell reports a letter from Andrew Carnegie via his secretary promising to cover the last half of a 3000 dollar pipe organ for Caldwell Methodist church. Carnegie would contribute 1500 toward a more costly instrument if desired. The Caldwell company planned to install a four thousand dollar organ for 3000, to be the finest of its kind in Idaho.
The Tribune highlights the semi annual clearing sale by Oakes Bros Caldwell creating anticipation among locals. The advertisement touts hundreds of rare bargains and urges readers to read the notice, noting Oakes Bros as Caldwell’s oldest establishment.
Caldwell and Boise court sessions feature gains for two notable figures. John Albin Carlson of Caldwell and Frederick Sanford of Parma gain U S citizenship in Boise District Court. Payette figures D C Chase and W F Kirk visit Caldwell to handle business, with Chase praised as a veteran politician and Kirk lauded as the editor of the Payette Independent.
Fruit growers and orchardists near Caldwell embrace the region as a fruit producing area aided by local, state, and national honors for orchard products. Pioneers H. W. Dorman and W. A. George inspire converts to plant trees this spring, with a 10 acre commercial orchard planned south of Caldwell. J. R. Meldrum arrives from Portland to lead a new moving picture show opening soon.
Dr W J Boone president of the College of Idaho spoke to the Presbyterian Brotherhood of Boise at the city church parlors. He urged living sacrifices of the best traits and argued for bettering inherited and later developments in humanity and education. He emphasized parenthood, birthright, and the College of Idaho’s needs.
The Idaho Supreme Court upheld the local option law as constitutional in a Canyon county appeal by Thomas Gilleaby. The ruling affirms the board’s call for a special election and clarifies registration and future-operative provisions, with Justice Stewart writing for the court alongside Chief Justice Sullivan and Justice Ailshie.
Caldwell Idaho January 25 1910 Caldwell Tribune reports Schence urges non-interest bearing certificates for reclamation funding usable as bank reserves and legal tender. He argues certificates could finish works, extend payment terms to 20 30 years, help homesteaders, and empower farmers to demand rights by pen rather than force. He cites Borah support and references to American Farmer.
The Kinder symphonie concert will entertain with Haydn and Beethoven style forms. It explains that a symphony has three or four movements in contrasting tempos and keys. The instrument lineup features piano, violins, flute, and various humorously named sounds. Proceeds fund a department piano and community turnout is hoped.
A. Pouch, a Roewell apiarist and prosperous farmer, visited Caldwell on Tuesday. He estimates Boise valley will yield 10 carloads of honey this year, with 318 pounds harvested last year of which 62 were extract honey. He views the bee business as highly successful and predicts Robe valley will rise as a leading honey region. John Drennan has been appointed water master for Caldwell by the Pioneer Irrigation District for the coming irrigation season. This will be his third season in the post, with colleagues praising his efficiency and accommodation.
