Sam Peterson, a Bighole cattle dealer, lost about 50 head while moving cattle from Lemhi to Montana along the Goldstone trail. As the herd reached a lake with firm shore ice, some cattle surged onto the ice, fell through over deep water, and about fifty died in the accident reported by the Lemhi Herald.
