Minot man charged with fatal shooting near Rice Lake

Minot North Dakota September 5 Gus Johnson a farmer living twenty miles south of Minot was arrested for shooting John Gash at the Gash farm home north of Rice Lake. An inquest was held by Judge William Murray. Johnson claimed self defense after a dispute over a land deal. Gash, a former school teacher, was survived by his wife and several children.

Many Hunters In Held Yesterday

Heavy rains kept Bowbells residents from hunting yesterday as muddy roads blocked autos and forced travel by team. Weather cleared by morning and forecasts point to excellent conditions for Sunday hunting. About 287 hunting licenses issued locally, with 90 issued Tuesday. many hunters went south and southwest to hills where ducks and chickens are plentiful. Reservoir near the city yielded only about a dozen small ducks before they flew away after the first shot.

Fargo reports Attorney General Miller’s opinion leaves snuff sale laws effectively unchanged. Prof E F Ladd sought enforcement. Miller’s letter clarifies that pure snuff ingredients must be pure, allowing continued sale. The Tribune notes the First National Bank report and Bowbells bank officers in state banking scene.
