Cousin's draft evasion tracked to Bismarck tale of Peter Hansen

Marie Beckman alerted Adjutant General Fraser when she learned her cousin Peter Oaker alias Peter Hansen planned to evade the U S draft. Hansen was detained at the station after arriving to depart on train No 8, found with seaman papers and an Australian port record, and held for transfer to Port Townsend Washington for action. Hansen, born to a German father and Danish mother, spoke Danish and German and reportedly wished to return to Germany.

Manplea Crowell Found Guilty of Murder in Minot

In Minot North Dakota on November 29 jurors after five and a half hours deliberation found B C Crowell guilty of murder in the first degree for the killing of Sam Dare a driver for a local transfer line. The jury fixed a penalty of ten years in the state penitentiary. The case stemmed from a collision between two vehicles leading to a quarrel and a barn shooting that left Casoll dead.
