A major blaze in Portal Sunday evening wiped out nearly an entire block. Originating from a gas lighting system in A Daly’s candy store, the flames spread rapidly, destroying Daly’s store, a pool hall, a restaurant, and a tailor shop along with several outbuildings. Losses near 13000 dollars with multiple insurances noted. Firefighters protected the nearby drug store.

The First National Bank will buy all Burke county warrants at a five percent discount. Charlie Bicker, popular meat market man, returned Saturday from his farm 11 miles southwest of Powers Lake North Dakota. He reported 130 acres of wheat yielded 15 bushels per acre, a strong return given current wheat prices. Charlie and his brother William, early settlers of the township named Bicker in their honor, own a solid, tillable section in the township, established in 1902 in Mountrail County.
