Double Murder Charge Against A Lease in Fortuna
A. Lease is jailed awaiting trial for murdering his wife and unborn child. The couple lived in a shack near Fortuna. Neighbors say low living conditions and neglect preceded the fatal confrontation when Lease allegedly beat his wife after she sought shelter with A. L. Wentworth. Mrs Wentworth intervened but the woman died the next day.

John Sheehan Dies By Self Inflicted Carbolic Acid
John Sheehan a northwest Williston farmer committed suicide by drinking carbolic acid. His body was found near government boats along the riverbank after rain-ruled watchers alerted authorities. Coroner Distad conducted a post mortem confirming suicide. Sheehan was about 48 years old and married, recently despondent and away from home for a week.
