Girl's death may cause sensation in North Dakota
Mary Ryan age 19 of Cavalier North Dakota died after a hospital admission and an alleged criminal operation. Coroner Murphy conducts an inquest as Norman Watson of Bathgate is suspected. Dr. Healy testified that the operation occurred in Minneapolis by Dr Prazer and that Watson may be responsible. Mary traveled to Grand Forks a week earlier, much of the town involved in the case.

Three Men Drown Crossing Devils Lake Ice

Two Mail Thieves Held at Forman
Forman North Dakota November 4 John F Walker and John Ganley are held in Sargent county jail charged with rifling two mail pouches and will be arraigned before a United States commissioner within a few days. They were captured near Rutland hours after the robbery with letters found in their possession. They were heavily armed but surprised by Marschal Cooper of Cayuga who had them covered before they knew his identity. Neither man will talk about the robbery. Cashier S M Sorenson of the First State Bank of Niobe was in the city yesterday afternoon on business.
Ferry Barge Disaster on Des Lacs Involves Grain and Teams
A Summerville ferry barge on upper Des Lacs sank shortly after starting across from the east side with two teams and two grain loads. Overload or a prelaunch leak likely caused the incident. Horses swam to shore and grain was saved. no serious damage. Separately John Barrett was bound over on bootlegging charges after a hearing. A burglary kit found on him, and further records to be checked. Westminster School plans a basket social and entertainment on Tuesday evening. Durkee County coal contract awarded to R Knowlton for the next year. coal bins to be stocked now.

Regular Passenger Service Starts on Niobe Short Line
Regular passenger express freight and telegraph service began on the Niobe Short Line this week. The first regular train arrived at 8 10 and returned the same evening, linking with Derthold branch trains. Trains run Niobe to North Gate on Tue Thu Sat until further notice, with plans for a first class train in a few months. Telegraphs available to any part of the globe via Great Northern line.

Telephone War Erupts In Kenmare Over Poles
Kenmare North Dakota November 4. A town wide telephone conflict flared after most residents had phones removed from homes and businesses starting November 1. Citizens tore instruments from walls in protest of poles interfering with a new white way. Northern Telephone Co refused to move poles, pledging to relocate them after several years. Victor Noble of Minot visited Kenmare and agreed to a one year contract to remove the poles if the white way is extended, weather delaying moves this season. The agreement calmed many residents who are ordering their phones back as the contract is prepared for signing.
