Mowbray North Dakota November 4 1923 Dom inice Hell a 23 year old son of Charles Hell died when a manure spreader started runaway at his father's farm north of Mount Carmel. He fell while mounting the seat and the machine passed over him crushing his skull. He died within an hour after the accident.
John Burkhardt, a Farmers' Union elevator helper in Hazleton, was fatally injured when his shoulder and head were crushed between a chain and sprocket drive. Manager W T O’Neil halted the machine, but Burkhardt died after being freed by Paul Crandell. he was 25 to 30, married with a wife and three children.
North Portal North Dakota reports a large German flag hoisted over the Canadian customs house on Sunday creating panic among locals and officials. Authorities scoured the countryside for suspects but found no clues. A later rumor suggested the flag was a Halloween prank by a practical joker rather than a spy.
John Lindquist, once near Coteau and Bit, who left his Minnesota farm two years ago, arrived Friday morning to spend time reviewing his holdings. He reports Minnesota conditions are very tall and the tale hints at improvements as he inspects.

In Foxholm New Jersey on Saturday afternoon a 3 year old boy, son of Mr. and Mrs. Nick Johannes, drowned while playing by the Des Lacs river bank. Two companions alerted others but rescue efforts came too late. The incident remains under investigation for exact circumstances.
Stanton North Dakota November 4 Carl Semmler Mercer county auditor faced forgery charges after allegedly entering Ed Schafer clerk of court’s office and signing Schafer’s name to a subpoena including Judge S L Nichols. The subpoena used as evidence. venue changed. trial set for Friday. Denemark North Dakota November 4 Miss Rodena Nelson driver to school in Denmark township dragged after her horse bolted hitting a telephone pole. She suffered notable bruising with no serious injury.
Bowdon North Dakota November 4 a distressing farm accident on the Emil Delger place eight miles northwest of Kelle. Four year old daughter of Mr and Mrs August Gelstein was badly burned and died later. A boy and the girl were playing when straw was set aflame causing her clothes to ignite. The mother attempted to help and burned her hands. The child was wrapped in a blanket and rushed to town by team for care.
Bottineau N D Nov 4 Joe Milo and John Miller Austrians were bound over to district court with first degree murder charges for the stoning death of two transients J N Karst and John Sisel. Motive given as robbery authorities pursued fugitives across eastern North Dakota. reward of 1000 dollars expected to be paid to Lansford resident B F Johnson who helped capture them.
A young man from Plaza who had worked as an engineer there was found in stock yards in critical condition from heroin. He and two companions had been drinking heavily. after whiskey ran out they used extracts and other dope. Medical aid arrived too late. One companion recovered. Tasker North Dakota November 4 a miner at McClure Coal Co was crushed between coal cars and timbering. He suffered severe injuries and may die. He had only worked in the mine a few days arriving from his Texas home. He is brother of the mine superintendent Win Verzatt.
An hour after a small card game, a man named Scott returned to his hotel broke and discouraged. He claimed Ute and two others conned him, stealing between 75 and 100 dollars. Police were alerted, as Utie was pursued from Canada while the other two fled to Mandan, with more details to follow on the last page.
A Dickinson farmer, Joseph Szexepanski, claims three of his sons aged 14 to 21 have been killed fighting in eastern Galicia for Austria. He arrived in the U.S. 31 years ago from a 40 acre farm near Green River, Dunn County, and now faces loss as his family’s affairs are public sale scheduled at Bowhells Opera House. Claus Johnson, who attempted suicide by hanging in the Hillsboro city jail last week, was examined for sanity and found mentally unbalanced. He was taken to Jamestown by Deputy Sheriff Larson and Robert Evans. Johnson, a longtime eastern county worker, inherited several thousand dollars recently and has since endured heavy drinking. local farmers seek a reliable farmhand for chores in Bowbells, N D.
In Bismarck North Dakota on November 4 J E Scott from Columbia Montana and QO H Utie of Ottawa Canada met at a hotel. They befriended two other men and at about 1:50 am Wednesday they went to Ira Griffin’s on Front Street for amusement.
Morgan Rhoad a 28 year old colored man shot Skinner fatally and wounded Ed Rittley and John Hanks after a dispute over a craps game at Oser Webb’s First street resort. Skinner died en route to St Joseph’s hospital. Rhoad then attacked Hankins at Walt McCrea’s place, wounding him, before police moved to scene and transported the wounded to hospital. The incident continued as officers investigated and Webb denied involvement.
