Estray Law Prompts Warning To North Dakota Farmers

The Mandan Pioneer notes the late legislature enacted a strict estray law requiring takers to publish a notice in a weekly paper within ten days, file animal descriptions with the county auditor, and mail a true copy to the agriculture and labor commissioner by registered mail. Noncompliance risks damages to the owner. In Lansford a devastating fire destroyed much of the business district, including ten structures, with losses around 50,000 dollars and rapid efforts by volunteers to save homes.

Why Me Didn't Drink at Red River Valley Town

A slope man visited a Red River Valley town, sought a drink, and received a glass with whiskey and a broom. He drank the whisky and water, then swept the floor with the broom, collapsed in a fit, and left. The account, likely libelous, is tied to a local business college ad for shorthand and typing courses.
