A reader from Salmon Idaho forwards a Tribune letter praising Idaho's butter law. The writer notes mandatory wrappers listing sellers and makers, with state refunds for spoiled butter. He argues broader adoption nationwide would streamline manufacture, sale, and consumption.
A local note lists Frank McAlpine as maker of OUnves Choice Dairy Butter in a brief dairy product notice from Salmon.
Frank Iwano notes wrappers cost farmers 2.50 for 500 or 1.00 per 100 and praises local butter quality in Salmon and nearby areas. He recalls butter at 30 cents per pound and eggs up to 50 cents per dozen this winter, expressing satisfaction with Salmon country life.
A rhymed exhortation counsels not to worry about the future. The speaker argues fret is useless against fate, noting disease war and disaster kill many, yet worry harms more. It ends with a call to endure with grit and a hopeful return of spring.
William Kaster of Max North Dakota arrives at Minneapolis police HQ claiming two robberies in as many days. He reports selling a farm for $300 and traveling to Indiana before being drugged in Minot and robbed of $190. He reached Minneapolis with about $90, with the rest taken by a friend at a South First Street saloon.
A New York dispatch reports a future airship with passenger capacity rivaling the largest steamers. Designs by Lewis Nixon envision vessels from 700 feet to 2,800 feet long carrying up to 2,500 people, crossing the Atlantic in a bit over two days. Thurlow Weed Barnes of Aerial Navigation Company says first launches arrive within a year with financiers backing a multi–ship program.
F L Sanders living nine miles north of town, a progressive farmer, started May 1 last year with eleven cows. By October the herd dwindled to four, yet he sold 1,891 pounds of butter for 374.50 dollars, using about 300 pounds for family. Cows were grade, with some Red Poll influence. Pasture oats bran and millet fed each cow. Diversified farming does pay.
In a January 7 1909 letter from Batavia New York Will Bell writes from a farm one mile from Batavia noting a mild open winter with little snow thirty seven miles from Buffalo. He sends New Year wishes to T B Hurry and Bowbells friends and mentions his wife in good health.
Senator P J McCumber of North Dakota has filed a senate amendment to the postal savings banks bill. The core features require deposits to be kept in nearby national or state banks, earn 24 percent annual interest, and allow deposits if local banks are unavailable to be placed in nearby banks or invested in bonds at state territorial county or municipal levels.

A Rome dispatch lists funds received in Italy from many nations since the quake. The United States tops the contributions, followed by Belgium Japan Germany Turkey and South America with figures noted in American equivalents.
W M Cook, a Wells county farmer, predicts North Dakota land will rise in value. He argues that either Iowa and Minnesota land must fall to 125 to 180 per acre or North Dakota bids must rise. He notes land here yields as well as in those states and cites Iowa prices ten years ago versus today.
Representative Gronna returned from the Panama Canal Zone and praised the progress and character of the work. He said his views are shared by every member of the congressional delegation that accompanied the trip.
