Maddock North Dakota February 18 A broncho stallion attacked Gustaf Elmquist injuring his right arm and thumb while he tried to lead it to the barn. Lancerud rushed to help dragging Elmquist several rods before the horse released him. Dr Moeller treated the wounds at Maddock and Elmquist recovered smiling upon arrival home. The animal, a small seven hundred pound stallion, had shown recent viciousness though previously tame.

Minot North Dakota February 18 Tom Jogulis a foreigner with smallpox broke quarantine from his shack near Burlington last week without disinfection. A warrant was issued for his arrest by the board of health and he was apprehended by a deputy sheriff and a Ward county public health officer at Genoa McHenry county. He will be tried in this city. Jogulis escape warned others in the county against breaking quarantine while contagious.

Velva North Dakota February 18 Joe Strong owner of a coal mine southwest of Velva and his crew approached the entry to begin work when a gleaming eyed animal appeared inside about a tool from the mouth. Floyd Russell reported a lynx seen recently in the gulch and Strong and party chased the creature into darkness. A second animal charged the mine entrance knocking over Andrew Quists and injuring him with eye lacerations. A mule hauling cars fled down a 50 foot embankment with loaded cars, breaking a leg and being shot. Quists identified it as a mountain lion based on prior Colorado mining experience.
