A North Dakota boy Anton Lapringer, missing in a Christmas blizzard, suffered severe frostbite and loss of limbs after a well meant act by neighbor Mr. Burkart. The boy’s family and medical staff provide care while the tragedy elicits sympathy for his crippled youth.
Foothills notes report bus delays and school disruptions due to a blizzard. Miss Sarah Owings and Mrs J N Wood hosted events while the Live Wire class met for rehearsals. Mail carrier Henry Hanson began routes February 4 amid cold weather and icy conditions.
White Earth February 8 report states fires burning for a quarter century along the Missouri River bed in western North Dakota have never been stopped despite many efforts. The lignite mine near Sanish and Williston has persisted since 1890, with water teams unable to extinguish the blaze.
About 150 bushels of wheat were stolen from a location miles southwest of Sherwood before heavy snow. The grain, valued at $256.50, was sold by Mr Hain at $1.71 per bushel as seed stock. The theft follows a house fire that destroyed the Hain residence on the F J Harris place last fall.
Battleview residents report visits to Stanley and Powers Lake, attendance at dances, and family celebrations. Miss Helen Johnson called on friends, Ola Sletten was ill, and D David son hosted an elevator party. The Torgersons marked a seventieth birthday while Thelma Green missed school due to illness. A car of lignite coal arrived and trips to Powers Lake occurred on Saturday night.
Staft Correspondent notes worsening weather with scattered local items. The Ladies Aid met at Mrs Gusti Anderson’s for a gathering. Pete Johnson hauled hay to Flaxton on Tuesday while Conrad Olson and family visited Otto Nelsons on Monday. Gusti Anderson evacuated after a load of hay.
A North Dakota official will explain the new federal farm loan system at the Royal Theatre in Burke County on Thursday February 15 at two o'clock. Admission is free and all farmers able to attend. Loans run five to forty years at six percent with possible lower rates later. Be prepared with questions.
Albert Johnson remains largely homebound this winter prompting questions. John Engstrom traveled to Coteau Saturday on business. Emil Adamson visited his sister Mrs Sam Berg this week. Henry and Magnus Nelson visited Elmier Rouse this week. Sam Berg called at his brother Anton’s home this week. Elmer Rouse and Henry Nelson attended a dance at Car Jensens last Friday. Magnus Nelson lost a valuable horse recently. Ess Rouse visited the Nelson home Sunday. Will Polin went to Coteau Saturday on business. Stelson’s boys haul straw. Bill Grill and Tommy Stagg haul coal. Weather has been stormy the latter part of the week. N A Nelson has been on the sick list lately. A bull faced eagle was seen nearby recently. Shrader visited the N A Nelson home Saturday and Sunday. Henry and Elmer Rouse went rabbit hunting Sunday and brought home a large number. E J Rouse transacted business in Coteau Saturday. Elmer Rouse and Henry Nelson spent Sunday evening at Sam Berg’s home.
A fierce blizzard battered Bowbells from Saturday evening to Sunday afternoon with 50 mile per hour winds. Snow banks clogged streets and buildings, with the temperature dropping to 20 below zero. Trains were delayed and several passengers canceled. Monday and Tuesday brought the warmest weather yet with little snow melt.
The Chicago Male Quartet presents high quality four part singing at the Royal Theatre on Saturday evening February 17. The group emphasizes members with extensive quartet experience.
Kandiyohi February notes list Peters Anderson and son Rayold visiting Kenmare last Saturday. John Peterson and Albert Haugen with Matt Haugen and Ellena Schmelling were also in town. Laura Haugen plans a short visit with relatives. Multiple families visited others in Kenmare and nearby areas Sunday and Friday evenings.

Will Turcott aged 19 froze to death near Trenton after leaving his brother in law's house without coat or hat during a late evening stroll. Coroner Distad reported the man was found by the road near the Falcon residence. Funeral services were held in Trenton with Rev. Father O Neil officiating.
