Elko Lodge enjoyed a major success during a Wednesday event last week as members completed the Elk installation at Williston. Local leaders praised smooth proceedings and strong turnout.
Bowbells Elks travel to Williston for a midweek visit with Drs Doe and Limburg and Frank McCagherty. The Elk Special train carried Minot Elk band, a parade through Stanley and Tagus, a Williston reception, and a banquet with lavish decor and ample grub. The Williston Lodge No 1214 was installed by Fargo officials, with Minot lodge handling activities and athletes Doe and Limburg gaining roles in entertainment.
A large Williston crowd gathered Wednesday for a planned 10 o'clock water dive at Citizens National Bank led by Minot Commercial Club secretary H C Ells, who did not appear in pink tights. The stunt was postponed indefinitely with about 200 visiting Elks present from Ells’s lodges.
Ed Hathaway reports hay scarce and priced at 12 to 24 dollars per ton, oats at 1.60 per 100 pounds, with fine weather turning cold to 40 below. Stock thrived on open prairie until the freeze, and the writer and family praise the country, believing prosperity awaits settlers with homesteads.
Three men Walter Durkin Ernest Farris and James Tucker were arrested near Des Lacs for grand larceny in Minot North Dakota on a warrant issued by Judge Murray. They are charged with stealing 190 dollars worth of wheat from N J Demare and will face a preliminary hearing before Judge Murray.
A letter from Fred Dilworth reports Miss Maggie Stinson, who moved to Canada with the Dilworth family, is bedridden with a severe rheumatism illness. Her many friends in the area express deep concern and hope for a swift recovery.
Washington dispatch reports John Hanson recovered hardy alfalfa seed from Siberia for Northern states. Congress member Hanna secured nine small seed packages to test in North Dakota red river valley and near Montana line under Plant Industry guidelines. If successful it will spread by farmer distribution and boost North Dakota’s ag and financial interests.
Our young friend Tim Lucy returned Friday from Casselton Fargo and other points down state where he spent six weeks visiting relatives and friends. He noted warmer weather south of here with snow depths no greater than six inches below Anamoose, similar to Bowhells country. Shoe repaired neatly at Endreson harness shop by skilled workers.
G L Bickford former North Dakota state treasurer is held to district court on ten thousand dollar bonds after a hard fought preliminary hearing. His brother A K Bickford former Bow Bells First State Bank cashier is also bonded as a witness. Key witnesses include Mrs Ellen Mitchell chief clerk and W D Austin deputy treasurer.
From Sherwood Mr and Mrs Seger arrived Sunday to comfort Mrs Clark and aid in care of Geo R Clark after an appendicitis operation. The Tribune notes notable improvement in his condition in recent days after a period of gravest concern.
Gust Swanson, a mason by trade, returned home ill with the grip after being confined to his house for several days. He had recovered enough to go downtown on Tuesday.
