Bradley Aug 22 Charlee A Madison 53 village marshal was killed by a transient who resisted arrest after a disturbance at a Commercial hotel. The man identified as Harry Carter was shot with a Colt .40 during a struggle on main street near an alley. Carter fled into nearby grounds and was later captured.
Aug 24 Fargo police arrest three girls aged 17 to 19 after a Dodge roadster lost control and struck the front of a Broadway department store, shattering a plate-glass display and injuring a bystander. The incident follows reports of local social notices and town chatter about residents’ weekend activities.
A. B. Punderhide, 56, a farmer of Cando North Dakota, died three days after a runaway four horse team bound to a binder tore flesh on his right leg as he opened a gate. Gangrene followed the injury. He is survived by his wife, a daughter, and his 96 year old mother.
A transient assaulted Julius Witcik in Fargo after Witcik refused to give him 26 cents for a meal. Burns was arrested on a charge of begging and later bound over to district court on an assault and battery complaint. Two freighthouse workers testified they saw the confrontation and Burns strike Witcik. Judge Monson set bond and the case will proceed in November or be disposed of otherwise.

A lightning strike at Halvorson Hardware in Glasston Pembina County North Dakota last night caused a blaze that destroyed the hardware store a general store and a confectionery with full stock losses estimated at 17000 dollars. Insurance coverage of 12500 dollars is noted and the general store plans to rebuild. A local note mentions a good time dance at Coteau on Saturday September 2 with Melby’s orchestra.

Fort Yates North Dakota August 24 Sam Stern Mobridge a tailor is in hospital with brain injuries after a car crash involving an automobile carrying Dr A P Darby and George Defender. The vehicle approached two cars from behind, failed to stay in control and overturned downhill. Darby and Defender suffered bruises while Stern sustained a severe head injury but observers think he will recover.
Donnald Jones seven lost footing on the dam top and was swept into the whirlpool on the Red River near Fargo. Searchers drag the river as children from Fargo Moorhead played nearby. his parents are Mr and Mrs Harry Jones of Roberts Hotel Fargo. He remains missing amid treacherous undertow.
