Robbers broke into the baggage room at the local Northern Pacific depot in Beach N Dj Ang and stole two rail pouches and other mail from No 7 and No 1. The incident occurred early this morning. Letters to local banks were left untouched. Railway Detective Murphys from Glendive is on the case with no clues yet.
Deputy H T Willoughby reports that J B Clark alias Newman, linked to the famous Kid Taylor horse theft gang, was among several captured by Weyburn mounted police led by Inspector Lee. Clark reportedly fled with a team and a wagon full of loot near Fortuna after passing through the Indian territory months earlier.
Clark appeared before Justice Ware with the government and defense unready, the preliminary hearing postponed to Monday. Bail fixed at 1000 dollars, which Clark cannot provide. United States Attorney Hildreth expected to arrive Monday to prosecute. government aims for conviction and possible transfer to Canadian authorities. Clark’s home listed as Viceroy Saskatchewan. supporters may fund his defense. case anticipated to be hard fought.
Wahpeton North Dakota August 194- John Torstenton a resident of Litchfield Minnesota killed himself on the Adolph Nordhus farm three miles west of Dwight by cutting his throat and wrists He left a letter saying he had a wife and child at Litchfield The cause remains unclear with no apparent motive indicated.
In Ramsey County North Dakota an escape occurred at Darts Lake on August 18. Edward Carter, who hid under a jail blanket, was captured last night after attempting to flee through a grain field. He faces an unspecified charge.
Jacob Wacker, a prominent farmer, was thrown from a binder while working in the harvest field about sixteen miles west of Forbes, North Dakota. He suffered a broken back and paralysis below the waist and died shortly after the accident. He leaves a wife and several children.
The body of an unidentified well-dressed man about 85 was found this morning in the Cannonball River at Shields, Mandan North Dakota. A prior report said a passenger on the Milwaukee branch line train saw a man thrown into the river as it crossed the railroad bridge. Railroad workers acknowledge many hoboes were aboard seeking work and are believed responsible.
McVille dispatch says Ted Hanson’s Tolna general merchandise store was burglarized with about 400 dollars in goods stolen from showcases. The haul included twenty watches chains pins and other jewelry. No clue or suspects immediately identified. theft discovered next morning after opening the building.

Devila Lake North Dakota August 19 A black hand letter demanding 500 from C M Fisher president of Ramsey County National Bank and local farmer arrived at his home The note signed Bad Man warned of fire destruction if the sum was not left at the Fisher farm cornerstone and urged caution advising readers to seek banker or merchant advice rather than trust strangers.
