Minot Independent quotes Mayor J. S. Murphy advising farmers not to rush planting while soil is cold. He urges harrowing to conserve moisture, wait for warmer ground, and plan sowing for late May to early June with oats, speltz, corn, potatoes, and flax. Murphy stresses moisture retention, soil testing via discing, and careful seed-bed preparation.
Verret and Heckel abstractors and lawyers moved from the Krueger block to the first floor of the old First State Bank building on Main Street. The new vault and space improve privacy and record safekeeping. G L Bickford vacated the upper floor and will move Burke Abstract Co there after it relocates from the Krueger block. Minot Reporter notes druggist Frank McCagherty mourns his bull dog killed by a car in the Herring smash-up at the Motor Inn.
Bowbells residents watched the Big Four gasoline tractor pull eight plows a drill and a packer at Frank Woods farm. Woods uses Campbell dry farming and the field showed moisture and hard ground, suggesting a strong crop potential this fall. Presbyterian ladies meet next Thursday at Mrs G B Hofius.
Mrs. F. L. Sanders wife of County Commissioner Sanders died last week at the family farm near Kenmare after a yearlong illness. Born Kate A. Vandermark in 1863 in Wisconsin she moved to North Dakota with her husband in 1900. She leaves her husband three sons one daughter three brothers and one sister. Funeral services were held at home and then at Kenmare Methodist Episcopal church with Rev. Johnson presiding.
The Presbyterian Church resumes full activity with a restarted Sunday School and growing attendance at morning and evening services led by Rev. D. Samson. A Tuesday reception welcomed Mr. Samson to strengthen member ties, and next Sunday’s schedule lists services at 11 a.m. and 8 p.m. with the Love of Life as the evening sermon. The Soo Line shows no action on an order to provide exclusive passenger service on the Ambrose branch within fifteen days, prompting railroad commissioners to enforce the mandate.
Evan Lloyd, a veteran engineer formerly with Burlington mines, perished at Major Murphy's farm nine miles west of Minot when a traction engine toppled into a mud hole. The 80 year old, a single man from Mankato Minnesota, was on the night shift plowing after ten days of work on the farm.
Miss Hattie Martin, once a noted city dressmaker, reportedly wed John McInnis of a farm east of Des Lacs lake, Estevan Sask, on the 22nd of last month. Martin left with her mother to tend farm interests and mail is now routed via Newport care of McInnis.
