Churches Remember Titanic Dead in Bowbells Services

Memorial services were held in Bowbells churches for Titanic victims with sermons stressing heroism and Christian fortitude. Prayers and hymns including Nearer My God to Thee and For Those in Peril on the Sea were offered as Rev. Samson and Father O Sullivan shared solemn sermons on death and preparedness.

Socialists to Convene at Lignite in June

Sam Dimond, a leading Socialist figure from the Foothills, announced in Burke county that the party will hold a convention at Lignite on June 4. A full Socialist ticket will be nominated for county offices at the fall general election except for states attorney, which no party member in the county currently qualifies to hold. Dimond said the party is growing stronger and expects members to hold offices within a year.

Wiper Wins Suit To Clear Emery Real Estate Bed

A. C. Wiper prevailed in his suit against Ed. Emery to compel the latter to vacate a premises recently deeded to Wiper. Justice Randall denied moving the case to district court. Judgment in favor of Wiper followed, with the defense seeking a writ of certiorari to review the decision.

Bowbells Dramatic Club to Stage Kathleen Mavourneen in Estevan

Randall secured a certified copy of the case record and Judge Leighton upheld him. Attorneys Gjertsen and Palda Aaker Greene represented Wiper Emery. Bowbells Dramatic Club members depart for Estevan Sask to perform Kathleen Mavourneen for St Joseph's church benefit after rehearsals this week.

Goldstein Targets Socialists in Minot Debate

Father D O Sullivan attended a Minot lecture by the anti socialism speaker Mr Goldstein who drew a large audience and challenged socialist leader Arthur LeSueur to a debate. LeSueur refused both time options and accepted equal terms for a later talk. A debate was planned for Minot Sunday afternoon with Goldstein speaking in Kenmare the next evening. Local notes include Mrs Leppindevin selling strawberry plants and editor George Cook visiting The Tribune. Wheat prospects East of town are poor but rye shows promise for a good crop.

Minot North Dakota April 25 1909 tax unpaid rates in Brooklyn addition raise concerns over 1907 to 1910 levies. City treasurer’s letter to finance commissioner notes 1909 1910 unpaid taxes totaling about 14600 with 3357 penalties and interest and 3170 shortfall. Henry Ackerman Dies Near Columbus After Illness

Henry Ackerman longtime Burke county resident died Monday at four of a complications from old age. He was 73 and had served in the Civil War and as Burke county public administrator. His body was shipped to Iowa for interment. States Attorney Andrews attended the Columbus funeral Tuesday afternoon.
