James Hill born near Guelpry Ontario October 26 1848 educated at Rockwood academy. He worked in merchandising at Ospringe Ontario before moving to the United States in 1897. He farmed at Ardoch North Dakota then homesteaded near Newburg. He is active in local affairs and trusted to look after the people’s interests.
Matt Johnson, editor of the Omemee Herald and a candidate for the 28th district state legislature, was born in Northwood Iowa. His father was a Worth county pioneer and Civil War veteran. Johnson moved to Traill County North Dakota in 1879 and later homesteaded in Kane Township Bottineau County before resuming newspaper work in Minnesota.
Neil H. McKinnon, Republican nominee for Bottineau County sheriff, was born in Ontario County Ontario in 1864. He grew up on a farm, moved west at 21, homesteaded in Hattineau County, farmed for years, then ran a drag business in Bottineau before being elected sheriff two years ago. He is described as honest, upright and conscientious, a capable leader for the office.
John P. Simon, Republican nominee for county auditor, was born November 20, 1869, in Prescott Pierce county Wisconsin. He moved to North Dakota in 1879 with his parents and settled at Thompson in Grand Forks county. In 1899 Mr. Simon came to
A Minot campaign article reexamines C A Johnson and opponent John Burke. It cites Burke a former Devils Lake city attorney, accusing lax enforcement of prohibition with open beer, gambling, and brothels under his watch. The piece frames Burke as insincere about virtue and law enforcement.
C R Wilber, Bottineau county clerk of court and reelection candidate, is a North Dakota native who arrived as a child from Michigan. He left railroading after losing a right arm and later settled on a Bottineau County homestead, rising from railroad call boy to conductor before his move into public service.
Adolph F. Peterson seeks another term as Bottineau county register of deeds after eight years in the office praising his record and promising continued hands. E. C. Bowen, incumbent state's attorney and Republican candidate for re-election, was born in Illinois 1871 and educated at Valparaiso and Drake universities before moving to Bottineau.
Sinkler of Grafton and Christianson of Towner, Republican nominees for congress and district judge, will speak at Bottineau Opera House on Thursday Oct 29. Foot Ball Rugby High School and the School of Forestry begin the season with the opening game at the turf club grounds today.
John H. Kirk born in Bellmont New Jersey in 1876 moved to North Dakota at age six. He studied at Brainerd Minnesota high school Grand Forks Souris and the University of Minnesota earning LLB in 1900. He has practice in Grand Forks and Souris and serves as Bottineau County judge with enlarged jurisdiction. He is praised for fearless impartial justice and urged Republican support.
Peter E Christenson, born in 1876 in Owatonna Minnesota, rose from public schools to a teacher in Bottineau County and was elected county superintendent. He holds a first grade North Dakota state normal certificate and is regarded as a prominent educator who advanced Bottineau County public schools.
A Minot judge, E B Goss, says reports he favors Burr are untrue. He states he is not backing Burr or any other Democratic nominee in the ninth district or elsewhere, noting he is a Republican nominee this year just as four years ago.
County teachers association meets at Westhope on Friday November 13. Superintendent Christensen visits Oak Valley and Scotia districts this week. New schools opened by Amelia M. Hanson Eidsvold No 2 C C Lander Scotia No 4 and Arthur Hagen Daybreak No 3.
Edmund White of Botineau, an engineer and contractor, was appointed county surveyor by the board of county commissioners last January and has satisfactorily performed the duties. He will receive the entire Republican vote.
Emil Johnsgaard, Bottineau undertaker and furniture dealer, is the Republican coroner nominee with no opposition. Republican county commissioners listed are Geo H Capes in district two, L J Larson in district three, and George Sidener in district five. Capes serves on the board by appointment, Larson is a Starbuck Township farmer, Sidener from Lansford with Western telephone interests, all described as capable additions to the board.
