Willow City Notes and Local Happenings Gathered

Oldest Bottineau County Resident Laid to Rest

Geo White Sr aged about 86 died at his son Thomas’s home after a four month illness. Born in 1821 in Surrey England he immigrated to Ontario and moved to Bottineau in 1889. Survived by four brothers three sisters five sons three daughters 28 grandchildren and many friends. Funeral held at Presbyterian church with Rev. Davis. interment Oak Creek cemetery beside his wife. Also a stray loss notice offers 10 dollar reward for recovering three horses and a colt near Deloraine Manitoba.

Candidacy announced for Republican nomination in June 1908. Promise to support tariff reform expansion and a non-partisan tariff commission. Supports irrigation drainage, bank deposits tax, asset currency, arbitration boards, anti Oriental immigration, child labor laws, tree planting aid, liberal soldier pensions, Rural Free Delivery, direct US Senate election, railroad regulation, and Roosevelt policies. Concert daily at Johnsgaard's Phonograph Parlor.

DANGER IX THE AIR Warns Public on Tuberculosis and Spitting

Dr Grassick of the Board of Health urges universal effort to combat coughing and spitting as a major health danger. The bulletin cites bacteriology’s role in prevention, cites yellow fever measures in Havana and Tuberculosis spread via inhalation, and calls for public education to stop spitting and reduce disease in homes, churches, schools, and factories.
