Fountain L Thomp son of Cando won the senatorial prize after a string of favorites in the race. Appointed by the governor after day of political talks, Thompson was a little known democrat from Towner county with ties to the governor and broad local support. He has a long Dakota record in county judge, mayor, banker and landowner, and a wife and three children.

Local rural corn contest awards prize to Erwin Brander
In Bottineau county a county wide corn contest concluded last Saturday with thirteen entrants. Erwin Brander of Souris won first prize with 88 points, followed by Clarence Wright and Wm Hugguss. Samples may go to the Omaha and Fargo exhibits. judges included Prof. R. K. Thompson and Robert Hamilton. Brander’s submitted composition describes planting in May, cultivation, frost, and the drying and packing of the corn.

November term of court opens with large jury calendar
Judge Burr convenes the November term at the courthouse next Monday at 8 p m. It is a jury term and the calendar of cases for trial is unusually large, likely extending over a long period.
