Longshoremen Strike Deepens In New York City
In a developing action past a week old, five more large transatlantic lines join the New York strike. About four to five thousand workers may delay major passenger and mail steamships while wage demands rise to 40 cents an hour regular pay, 80 cents overtime, and 80 cents holiday work. Death of Ian Maclaren at Mount Pleasant Iowa May 7
Dr. John Watson known as Ian Maclaren died Monday morning after two weeks with an ear abscess and complications from rheumatism. He arrived from Minneapolis April 23 to lecture at Iowa Wesleyan University but fell ill en route. A Chicago specialist arrived too late to save him. He was born November 3, 18 0 in Essex England and wrote under the pen name Ian Maclaren.
