The case signals a shift toward treating guerillas as bandits, with concerns over insurgents holding over 50 American prisoners and potential retaliation.
A Berlin Herald special cites a rumor from Canada claiming Esquimaux killed two white men who supposedly fell from heaven last October. The report says Esquimaux reached Fort Churchill and reported finding balloon remains and remains of two men hidden nearby.
A split formed in the Populist National Committee at a fiery gathering in Omaha Nebraska on February 21 as anti fusion leaders saw many supporters rejected by the credentials committee. The faction formed amid disputes over alliances and control.
