Last Monday night Blackfoot and nearby areas received a heavy rain, the heaviest single day on record at 1.03 inches per official weather reports. Lightning and thunder accompanied the downpour, with Shelley reporting a killed cow and three damaged telephone poles. A subsequent shower on Wednesday pushed the weekly total to over 2.23 inches. The 4th of July meeting planned for Friday night drew very few attendees.
