County commissioners of Valencia New Mexico levy a three mill tax on property to fund public highways and meet federal aid road act requirements. The governor directs extension on the 1920 tax roll and remittance to the state treasurer for the state road fund.
Valencia County commissioners met in special session August 28 1920. Manuel Garcia chair and others approved readings and appointed as board of Registration for the November 2 1920 election. School funds estimates were set to be reviewed September 27, 1920 with levy for district No 10 and judges of election designated.
Cathry Wooldridge, a former Austin banker now state fire marshal, says he invests at least one third of his monthly income in Liberty Bonds. He told Dallas Federal District Director Dinsmore W. Hume that these securities are best for him and that without Liberty Bonds he would buy other government War Savings Securities and Savings Certificates.
A Smithville resident writes to Insmore W. Hume, Federal District Director of Government Savings, declaring he quits the sucker’s game and will buy War Savings Stamps with his salary. He claims War Savings Stamps offer a safe, attractive compound interest and that saving is the safest game.
Paying compound interest and cash on demand the new registered Treasury Savings Certificates may be obtained via the local post office or banks. A $100 certificate costs about eighty dollars this month while a $1 certificate is priced at eight and some odd cents. The difference between the capitalist and non capitalist is four dollars and nineteen cents or one red War Stamp. Put money to work in a restored savings certificate.
