Titman Named as District Attorney in 7th District

Edward D. Tittmann editor and lawyer from Hillsboro Sierra County was appointed by Governor McDonald to fill the 7th judicial district seat after the death of John E. Griffith. He took oath and planned to base operations in Hillsboro with Milton J. Helmick as his assistant.

Belen Public Schools Sees Strong Attendance and Active Clubs

Grade rooms mostly exceed fifty pupils while Miss Duer’s class has forty nine. A morning-exercises committee of Marion Kennebeck Jessie Mallow Louis Gerpheide and Paul Simmons is set for one week. The high school forms an athletic association and basketball is planned after practice. Mrs Wilson readings and a student quartet highlighted mornings. The thirtieth annual convention of the NM W C T U gathers in Deming with sessions from Friday through Monday. Activities include officer reports, Young People's Branch talks, Loyal Temperance Legion, election of officers and delegates, medical temperance, Sunday school work, Matron's Gold Medal Contest, and a Seeing Deming tour for visiting delegates. Season for Waterfowl Opened December 16

State game law changes curtail the duck season to begin December 16 instead of September 1 and require hunting only from sunrise to sunset. Sportsmen warn that hunting at dusk will risk federal court action.

Zion Church Schedules sermons and activities

Evangelical Lutheran Zion Church led by John A M Ziegler schedules 11 am and 8 pm services with 10 am school and Bible class 7 15 Luther League. Dr Ludden from Lincoln Neb visits as board of home missions secretary to preach morning and chariot sermon at night. Luther League led by Frieda Becker with Arthur Reinkin. Ladies Aid meets next Thursday at Mrs Paul Dakes hosted by Mrs R N Snowden.

Valencia County Road Board names new chair and districts

At the September meeting Valencia County Road Board elected Mr. Baca as chair replacing Mr. Raff. Several district supervisor changes followed with Elias Sanchez Seboyeta Burt Wetmore Laguna Adolfo Blea Grant San Rafael and Pablo Pino San Mateo named. The engineer was ordered to set up road drag systems and surveys widen roads south of Belen ahead of grading. A Bosque district near the Socorro line is created. Engineer Hitchcock will visit western areas next week to inspect roads and guide new supervisors. Grading and bridge work from Peralta to Los Lunas is complete and roads are in good shape for travel.

The Valencia County Road Board warns the public against removing survey stakes along county roads with penalties of up to 160 dollars fine or six months in jail. The law imposes heavy penalties for conviction on this charge.
