Valencia County Road Bonds Sale Meets Plan to Guarantee Gap

The Valencia County Road Board considers selling its share of State Highway Bonds at par with a public subscription to cover the difference. Valencia’s share amounts to 25000 dollars for Camino Real road work. A joint meeting with Socorro county to define powers and harmonize action is planned. Bridges, grades, and road repairs in Laguna Sawyer Los Chavez Los Lunas are authorized. A good service meeting at the Santa Fe Reading Room was held with about twenty five youths addressed by Supt McMahon.

A group of youths rode three miles onto the Mesa Wednesday night for a campfire outing with coffee and cake. Chaperones Mrs. N. R. Strawberry and Cream Festival at Methodist Church

The ladies of the Methodist Episcopal Church host a Friday evening festival at the church on May Decoration Day. Music will be by the Belén Brass Band. Everyone is invited to enjoy the evening and support a good cause. You’ll regret missing it.

New Law Establishing Weights and Measures Enacted

A new general weights and measures act, Senate Bill No. 186, makes the sheriff ex officio public weighmaster with deputy appointment power. It requires semiannual scale testing, fixed net contents on common goods, selling by weight, and penalties from 10 to 100 dollars or 30 to 90 days in jail. Cities regulate weighings, bread standards, and public scale use.

A mother and daughter with limited land cultivated a half acre for a family of eight. They sold $7 in tomato plants, $15 in fresh vegetables, and canned 1100 jars for market and winter. They saved 200 jars for home use and sold 900 at ten cents each, totaling $112 from the small plot.

Surprise party honors outgoing church president

On Monday evening the Ladies Aid of the Christian Church gathered at the Davidson home then marched in a body to surprise their president Mrs H A Morgan who leaves soon for Albuquerque. They enjoyed games music and refreshments before bidding farewell to their much loved leader.

McMichael Visits Fred Adams on Belew to Santa Rita

machinist Fred Adams of Vaughn traveled via Belew Sunday night en route to Santa Rita to visit his brothers. He spent time here with his sister Mrs Harvey Baber and was accompanied by Miss Erylene and Master Eryle Baber. He plans a longer visit on his return.

Miss Bernice Lenora Ormsby arrived in Belew on Monday May 26 to live with Mr. and Mrs. Walter Ormsby. The infant weighs 12 pounds, proving she is a healthy baby. Parents report mother and child are doing nicely at last reports.
