Valencia county shows progress in education with 25 new rooms 24 remodeled buildings and several under construction. Five-year gains include more qualified teachers longer school terms a 22 percent enrollment rise and strong cooperation among parents boards and the superintendent. A county high school bond passed by wide margins with substantial donations funds a new three acre play area four acre school gardens and park spaces.
At the Lutheran Church program in Panama featured famed composers Carrie Jacobs Bond and others honored during the Exposition. Vocal pupils from Mrs. Frank Fischer performed, with Virginia Simmons, Ruth Ziegler, Henrietta Herbordt and Miss Ziegler among noted soloists. The event highlighted Bond’s works including Roses Roses Everywhere and The Years at the Spring, with Mrs. Fox and Mr. Shirley Davidson among attendees and performers.
The article notes mobilization of National Guard units including L companies in Las Cruces Deming Pecos and two Albuquerque companies leaving at five this morning. A large send-off occurred at Armory Hall with two thousand handbills and a civic greeting from Albuquerque’s Commercial Club.
Saturday evening program at Goethe Theater featured high school students in an announced play. The girls performed with freeing grace and skill, drawing praise for their effort as the venue filled beyond seats and many stood for the three hour show.
President David Ross Boyd spoke at the noon commencement exercises reviewing the university's progress and future plans. He emphasized growth in programs, research expansion, and community impact as the ceremony proceeded.
The registrar reports four year growth at the University of New Mexico. Enrollment rose from 99 to 222 with most students in full college rank and county representation expanding from 12 to 22 of 26. The registrar notes a shift to eliminate sub college work and predicts high turnout next year as the freshmen class grows and counties statewide are represented.
The War Department orders mobilization of 10 009 infantry to the border with Arizona New Mexico and Texas militia joining nearly four regiments and artillery. Governor Wincham of Hawaii offers services of the Hawaiian national guard. Gen Funsten designates Fort San Houston as mobilization point for Texas militia and Douglas for Arizona national guard with New Mexico to be mobilized at Columbus.
