The U S Food Administration in Washington calls for a 50 percent drop in U S wheat use to 21 000 000 bushels monthly to feed allies and maintain war bread. Measures limit household and public consumption, curb baking, and require shifts to other cereals as a wartime rationing plan.
The U S Food Administration reports July 1 1914 to January 1 1918 food aid to European allies. It covered yearly rations for 57 100 988 people with protein for 22 104 570 more. Wheat and flour exports to the three main allies totaled about 254 000 000 bushels. Pork exports reached nearly 2 000 000 000 pounds and fresh beef exports totaled 443 484 400 pounds. Russia received negligible amounts compared with western allies.
