The University of New Mexico hosts its first interstate intercollegiate debate on March 25 with the University of Redlands California. The subject is whether the federal government should own and operate all interstate rail roads. A stenographic report will appear in Intercollegiate Debate. A month later New Mexico University faces the University of Southern California, a strong unbeaten team.
Arbor Day ceremonies involve planting tees by school children to impress on attendees the beauty of trees and their role in enhancing schools, streets, parks and yards. The event has evolved into a community festival reflecting foresight and preparedness. It began to help Nebraskans plant shade, farm protection, fuel and timber for local use.
Secretary Daniels announced the California name for Dreadnought Number 44 to be built at Mare Island while Dreadnought Number 40 currently under construction will be christened New Mexico. The change assigns New York as a yet unnamed battleship designation.
