The Valencia County Teachers Institute, in session since May 31, sees strong attendance and progress. Prof. G B Jones from Albuquerque public schools leads as conductor with instructors Mrs Florence Bartlett of San Acacia and Mrs Hollenbeck of the city. Superintendent Saturnino Baca receives high praise for tireless efforts advancing Valencia county education.
The Valencia county Teacher Institute enters its second week with thirty teachers present. Prof. G B Jones leads courses under supervision with Mrs Bartlett and Mrs Hollenbeck assisting. Highlights include lectures, notes, and visits planned to local farms, with several staff and guests expected to attend later in the month.
Las Cruces New Mexico on June 7 reports residents joining a broad drive to message President Wilson on war sentiments. Citizens inscribe views on post cards and mail them, offering a fast, personal petition they hope reaches the president.
Bates petitions for habeas corpus, claiming a suspended sentence in October 1914 required home confinement and freedom only under court control. Judge Pope ordered a return June 7. The case centers on alleged violations tied to a separate 1915 incident in Carlsbad.
Hundreds joined the Corpus Christi procession at the Church of Our Lady of Belén parish. The square brimmed with six altars and floral arches as Rev. Father J.B. blessed the Blessed Sacrament. Notable participants included Lucas Sanches as high dress wearer and several mar che choir members conducted by Guadalupita Romero de lo.
From Vienna reports say Lemberg in Galicia may fall to Austro German forces as Russians retreat from Przemsyl. British and French fronts show mixed progress while Sir Percy Cox gains Amara on the Tigris with Anglo Indian forces capturing prisoners guns and vessels. Berlin dispatches claim Przemyśl fall with 7000 prisoners and heavy loss for Russia.
After two hours of discussion at the cabinet meeting, Secretary Tumulty announced the note to Germany would be sent to Berlin tomorrow. The cabinet declined to discuss it, with the president noting only a rough draft had been reviewed and that the general character remained unchanged and approved by the cabinet.
