A Good Man Gone. Hon Melquiades Chavez died at his home in Old Albuquerque last Tuesday morning after a brief illness. He served as Bernalillo county sheriff in early years and later in the state house of representatives during the 1906 08 reform wave. Survived by a son Elias Chavez and brother Carlos Chavez, an attorney. Funeral plans pending per Undertaker Fred Crollett. Chavez was famed for fluent Spanish oratory and commanding platform presence.
