The Valencia county grand jury submits a six day, forty eight case report noting 34 true bills and six no bills. Guilty pleas include Donaciano Garcia for second degree murder and Vidal Chavez for unlawful cattle disposition.
Enrollment at New Mexico State University as of the end of the first week of the second semester totals 220, up 26 from the first half and over fifty from this year’s total. The gain doubles the two-year-ago level, with most new students volunteers and representation from every county for the first time.
The New Year dance hosted by the Belew Society for their friends at Goebel's Theatre featured music from Albuquerque and a late buffet luncheon. The event, led by Mr. and Mrs. C. L. Baker, drew numerous guests and was noted as the season's largest winter gathering, with decorations and steady music throughout the night.
Supt Fox schedules a double head er Basket Ball game for next Saturday. Albuquerque High School girls team will face local girls at 3 PM and again at 8 PM.
Donaviano Garcia of Peralta pleaded guilty to second degree murder before Judge Mechem. Sentencing pending. State vs. Sidney McCracken, from Socorro County, faces upcoming hearing for alleged murder of Hdardo Tafoya. Also State vs. Antonio Ortiz listed as upcoming murder case. Vidal Chavez y Montoya mentioned.
The Belen Commercial Club banquet at Harvey House drew a large crowd. After 9 pm the gathering moved to the dining room for a menu prepared by the management. Enriquez Sanchez and Isidoro Chavez appear in court with guilty pleas and suspended sentences. Chavez faces a pending sentence for burning brands.
The Albuquerque High School bond election drew 354 votes with only four against. The event followed a local high school game and featured speeches by Supt. Fox of Belen High and Mr. Hans Becker of the Commercial Club. Attendees included J. B. Becker Jr and many local leaders. a banquet served tomato bouillon to roast turkey and other courses.
The church reports rising Sunday School attendance and expanding membership. Sunday at 11:00 A M the sermon "All Men Are Prophets" explores Christian Science ideals, followed by 7:30 P M "What is Religion" noted as a bold scripture presentation. Choir practices occur Thursday at 7:00 and children’s choir Friday at 3:00.
