Valencia County residents fill Los Lunas as District Court session runs full. Officials like Sheriff Jaramillo and DA Owen draw praise while visits from Judge Redey and architect Rapp highlight a bustling legal community.
Los Lunas New Mexico January 4 The special term of the District Court called by Judge M C Mechem started Monday morning with Judge Mechem presiding. The grand jury organized with Carlos Boca foreman. District Attorney Harry P Owen and Assistant D A Eaton of Socorro busy presenting cases. Several notable attorneys in attendance include Senator Barth Judge B S Rodey A A Sedillo M C Ortiz M C Spicer W C Heacock and Eaton. County Commissioners Eugene Kempenich presiding were in session approving last quarterly bills. Dennis Chavez of the New Mexico Board of Exposition managers urged a 500 appropriation to maintain the San Diego Building in 1916. The Board passed the resolution upon assurance that matching funds would be raised. The petition of the New Mexico State Record asking a donation for a special edition was turned down.
1915 taxes are now payable and the first half becomes delinquent January 15 1916. After that date penalties apply. The text mentions the grand jury and court cases expected to be heard, with a note on handling interpreting before work on Monday.
The Valencia County High School teams traveled to Albuquerque on New Year’s Day to face Albuquerque Business College. Both teams underperformed and returned disappointed. Local hopes lie on a rematch with Albuquerque High on the 15th. Kennebeck and Castillo stood out for Belen, though critics say they cannot carry the game alone. Belen's squads have potential but need more pep.
The Christmas dance hosted by young men Saturday night delighted attendees. A grand lunch followed, with guests including Mrs. J. B. The year’s production includes 1.5 million dollars in gold, 2,032,000 ounces of silver, 72,000,000 pounds of copper, 24,640,000 pounds of zinc, and 3,951,000 pounds of lead, yielding total value around 18.7 million dollars, up from 1914. Copper totals reach 72 million pounds for 1915.
