Valencia County Courthouse Dedication Set for Labor Day
Arrangements are under way for the dedication of the Valencia County Courthouse in Los Lunas on Labor Day Monday. The morning program will be led by Judge M. C. Mechem with many state officials invited, followed by an afternoon baseball match between Gallup and Belen. A special Belen train is planned, with broad turnout expected. The district court for Valencia County opens the same day, and the courthouse and jail cost about 40,000 with modern fire safety features and separate structures connected by a bridge.

The Belen baseball aggregation lost 4 to 3 to the Albuquerque 4-A’s on a rough local field. Hall scored for Belen in the first, Voelker and Burford homer in the final inning, and Coen hit a homer in the third. Cha vez Spencer and Rudolph plated runs for Belen as Hartline struck out six for the 4-A’s. A double play Branch to Burford to Le Master thrilled fans. Umpires Hoffman and Kuhns worked the game.

Fingers Caught in Cogwheels at Belen Mill
Sam Grafe the miller at the Belen Roller Mills nearly lost several fingers last night when his right hand was pulled into an angle cog while oiling a hot box. The bone of the index finger was broken and the thumb and first two fingers were badly cut requiring stitches. despite the injury he remains on duty as the mill runs double shifts due to heavy wheat intake.

The W C T U held a Chautauqua day featuring Edwin Schanadore on Indian Problems and Roswell Chrisman winning a gold medal. A new rustic lodge on the Chautauqua grounds in Mountainair was dedicated with draperies Navajo rugs and lodging for members. The lodge cost about 650 dollars funded locally with some advances to be repaid.

All Stars Meet Locals in Upcoming Ball Game
