El Paso April 14. Eight hundred Mexican federal troops under Colonel Fox left Juarez for Casas Grandes, Chihuahua, by the Mexico Northwestern railway. Carranza troops arrived from Chihuahua City and another contingent heads overland toward Sonora and Agua Prieta opposite Douglas Arizona. Military plans call for dispatch of sufficient federal forces to subdue Sonora’s secessionist movement. The cavalry mounts are in poor condition, and the march covers over 200 miles through rough terrain.
April 14 Agua Prieta Sonora AP reports that Sonora rebels and Mexican federal troops clashed on the Sonora Sinaloa boundary. Military authorities say the encounter marks the start of open war between the seceding republic and Carranza’s government. Officers reinforce the Sinaloa Sonora frontier and guard mountain passes from Chile Prieto to Agua Prieta as Carranza forces advance from Casas Grandes toward Agua Prieta.
General J M Piss claimed 13 Mexican states, including Sonora, severed ties with the Garranaa government. A telegram signed by a Calles official circulated, while Baja California Governor Cantu called the Sonora secession movement local and said northern Baja would stay aligned with its state government. Public notice items on land leases in Valencia County also appear amid chaotic regional reports.
In a statement quoted by Governor Esteban Cantu, he says the Sonora secession is purely local and in no way reflects the northern district of Lower California, which remains loyal to and will continue to support the president of Mexico.
James S. Dobbs sues Grace Dobbs in Valencia County New Mexico for a dissolution of marriage on desertion grounds. If no appearance is entered by April 14 1920 a decree pro confesso will be entered. Barnes and Livingston of Belen NM represent the plaintiff. Clerk Diego Aragon administers the case.
